Q: What is an average day like for you on the job?
I’m in charge of a service crew that inspects commercial and residential roofs and repairs leaks, and most of my time is spent in the field. We service all types of roofs. We usually start inside to see where the leak is occurring and then go up on the roof to find the source. With some roofs it’s definitely easier than others. Built-up roofing systems are probably the most difficult when it comes to tracing a hidden leak.
Q: What was your favorite project so far?
One of my favorite projects of all time was a rubber roof we installed for a Caterpillar dealer in Brownstown. It was a new construction project and the roof was really big. I love doing rubber roofing. It’s a very good roofing system; it performs well and it’s fun to install.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
I like to make the customer feel like I am there to help them and get their roof fixed properly. They’re usually very appreciative and I enjoy the feeling that I’ve been able to help them. And I really enjoy working for Weaver. They’re a good Christian company and they’ve treated me very well over all these years.
Q: What do you like least?
Looking for leaks when there’s snow or ice on the roof is probably my least favorite part of the job, along with climbing a sloped roof in bad weather. We use harnesses and sometimes we’ll use a lift instead, but that is part of the job that’s definitely a challenge.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my family. I have three boys, aged 11, 14 and 17, and we really enjoy going deer hunting together in the fall. I’ve also been a volunteer fireman with the Martindale Fire Company for about 19 years.
Q: Do you have any favorite movies?
My favorite movie is “Courageous.” I really like “Fireproof,” too.
