Q: Can you describe a typical day on the job as a construction foreman?

The job of the foreman is to keep the job running on time and smoothly and to deal with unforeseen developments as they arise. I’m also responsible for delegating work and keeping the crews and the clients informed each step of the way. I’m always in direct communication with the homeowner and the project manager throughout the job.

In renovations we’re often working with older homes, and that means dealing with the unexpected, so I have to do a lot of troubleshooting. There really is no typical day in remodeling. I work on everything from renovating a hundred-year-old house to doing a small kitchen bumpout. I’m usually working on about three jobs at a time, one that’s finishing up, one that’s midway and one that’s just starting. Finding a good balance between those three jobs is a big part of my job.

Q: Do you have a favorite project?

Sandstone FarmhouseThe Sandstone Farmhouse remodel we did in Mohnton is probably my favorite. We renovated it completely. It wasn’t just the job, the people were great, too, and the property was beautiful. It had two fishing ponds.

Q: What do you like best about your job? What do you like least?

My favorite aspect of the job is the group of guys I work with. They’re awesome. Every one of them is top of the line.

Seeing the progress of a remodel every day is also a favorite aspect of my job, seeing immediate results from a hard day’s work. When we start the job and tear everything up it looks horrible. Then seeing the progress and the end product, that’s awesome.

Without a doubt, my least favorite part is the dirt—tearing out old insulation, old plaster. It’s very dirty work.

Q: What is it like to work at Weaver?

The teamwork is great. I also very much appreciate that it’s a Christ-centered company.

Ken and Randy Weaver are approachable and laid back. They communicate really well and they trust us as field guys. That’s really important.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not renovating houses?

When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a three-year-old daughter and she takes up a lot of my time, and I love every second of it. I also enjoy fishing and hunting.
