What is an average day like for you on the job?
Some days I’ll be at a jobsite all day, and another I’ll be doing service work and it can be two or three jobs in a day. It varies. I do whatever pops up, like repairing siding or putting in a skylight.
What do you like most about your work?
I like the flexibility. You’re not tied down as when you’re running a big job. It also feels good to help somebody and take care of their problem.
What do you like least about your work?
I don’t do a whole lot of roof tear-offs anymore, but tearing multiple layers off a roof was something I didn’t care for. There’s a lot of debris and it’s a dusty job.
How do people learn to walk and stand on a roof safely?
Number one is you have to have your safety equipment. If it’s a steep roof, you need your safety railings and harnesses. When you start doing roofing there’s fear, but the longer you do it, the more comfortable you get.
How do you work to get better at your work?
There’s always room for improvement. Always have an open mind if someone shows you a new way of doing something.
Do you have a favorite project?
When I was a foreman in exteriors, I did a complete house re-siding and re-roofing with new windows. After the job was done, we stood back and saw the difference. It was rewarding.
What is it like to work at Weaver?
It’s a great place. I’ve been here for 17 years — I have a lot of good memories. It’s just a great company with great bosses. They take care of you here.
What makes Weaver different from other places you’ve worked?
This was my first full time job since I turned 18.
What’s your family like?
My wife and I have four kids — one son and three daughters. They’re energetic and want to play games. We like the outdoors. Me and my son do fishing and hunting together.
What’s your favorite vacation spot?
We like to go to the mountains as a family. We rent a cabin along Penns Creek and go fishing in the creeks and streams.
Do you have any Hobbies?
My hobbies are hunting and fishing.
What game do you like to hunt and how?
Deer, turkey, bear. Deer hunting is number one. Archery hunting and rifle hunting. Archery is in the fall and it’s not as cold. You have to play the wind and you have to be close range. It’s not like a rifle. It’s more of a challenge.
