What is an average day like for you on the job?
My day starts getting in the office at 5 or 6 in the morning to point the field guys in the right directions. They’re all running to different jobs and need questions answered. During the rest of the day, I get into my project management role, running jobs, managing schedules with subcontractors, and relaying that information to the client.
What do you like most about your work?
This position provides me with the opportunity to work with a variety of different people. I enjoy the relationships both with my own guys and with the customer. That’s something I’d say I enjoy the most. I get to do a lot of problem solving with different people and that’s good too.
What is the least favorite part of your work?
The stressful nature of it is definitely not my favorite. It’s easy to get stated in the morning, but what’s difficult for me is turning it off at 5 o’clock at night. It’s hard to shut it down. That would be the part I enjoy least. Of course, I do enjoy the job. That more than makes up for it.
What is your management philosophy?
Honesty, without a doubt. Anytime you try to cover your mistakes by bending the truth, it puts you in a bad spot. Allowing people to maximize their potential is a big one. I like to have control of everything and do it all, but I’ve learned to not hold back guys that have the ability to do great things. I put a lot of trust in people- that’s important to me. I’m always willing to give people a chance to grow and succeed.
Do you have a favorite project?
That’s a tough one for me. I’m big on variety, so I enjoy just doing different projects all the time. I almost enjoy each one on the same level because of the variety we get into. The best projects are with a customer who enjoys the project as much as I do. A customer who is fully invested in the job, and puts their heart into it, makes a project the best.
How does your job inspire you?
It inspires me to better myself. To be better with my people skills and understanding people. It’s exciting to learn to work with the different types of personalities.
What is it like to work at Weaver?
There’s no doubt that it’s enjoyable and fun. To be around good supportive people every day makes it a pleasure. I’d say that it’s comforting to work here.
What makes Weaver different from other places you’ve worked?
The difference is the tight knit family atmosphere. Nobody is left on an island. Everyone feels like part of the team, and everyone is included.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I have a wife and four kids. That keeps me pretty busy. They’re into sports, so I coach baseball for two of my sons. I’m an outdoorsman; I enjoy, hunting, fishing, and as a family, we do a lot of camping. We all love to go camping. I’m a leader in my church as well.
What softball position do you play?
I play outfield, and I’ve played outfield my whole life. I still enjoy running around out there, and my body still allows it.
Where is the best place you’ve camped?
We’ve done Raystown Lake for the last few years. We even do some local campgrounds if we don’t have the time to travel. Our family really likes to try new places each year.
